China blocked the final communiqué of the G20 finance ministers' meeting, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, while Xi Jinping, amid a visit to India, urged Modi to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and attended the BRICS summit in New Delhi for the first time in seven years. I see this as a continuation of the strategy I have noted before: Beijing is methodically steering key economic agreements away from the control of Western platforms like the G20 and toward formats such as BRICS and the SCO, where it has greater latitude to set the rules of the game directly, without Western partners holding veto power.
